25 — years of NASA Terra satellite data
The problem
25 years of NASA Terra satellite data (MODIS, MISR, ASTER sensors) sits in archives that scientists can parse but children and general public cannot engage with — the raw data is incomprehensible without heavy processing.
The approach
Built a real-time 3D globe with Three.js that maps historical climate readings onto geographic coordinates. An animated astronaut character guides users through country-level climate stories. A canvas-based space mini-game reinforces the science. All sensor data is fetched live from NASA APIs and normalised for visual rendering.
The results
NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 submission by Team CosmoMinds. 3D globe renders 25 years of Terra satellite data with smooth animations. Climate stories are dynamically generated per country based on real MODIS/MISR/ASTER readings.
